Fall 2020 FFT

Here are my Five Favorite Things from this Fall, so far. If you missed my summer list, you can find it here.

Not Really a Recipe: Fried Rice

Growing up one of my favorite dishes that my mom would cook was fried rice. Maybe it was those tiny salty nuggets of spam in each spoonful or the different colors of the white rice, orange carrots, green peas, yellow egg, and pink spam bits, but I always looked forward to fried rice night. These days, fried rice night is when I round up whatever leftovers or half wilted vegetables are in the fridge and make a meal. I chop the leftover barbeque takeout/kale salad/kimchi into bite size pieces, fry them in a big pan with some garlic, scramble an egg, add 4 cups of rice, and add a mix of 3 tablespoons soy sauce + 1 tablespoon sesame oil + something spicy at the end. It always comes out better than I expect, with the added bonus of having cleared out the fridge.

Walk: The High Line

I took a walk on the High Line at the end of the summer. You will need to make a reservation- though walk ups are welcome as long as there is room- and only a small stretch of the High Line is open, between Gansevoort and Chelsea. It’s surprisingly empty once you check in and get on the High Line. There were a few visitors who had taken the relatively quiet environment to set up their home office on the benches.

TV Show: The Midnight Gospel

If you’ve ever traveled on a plane with me, you’ll know that I pretty much only watch animated TV or movies on in-flight entertainment. Luckily, you don’t need to wait to get on a plane because The Midnight Gospel is available to watch on Netflix. It’s a psychedelic animated series of 8 episodes about spirituality and death. The last 2 episodes are awesome and I cried.

Rediscovery From My Closet: Hair Clips

My hair is getting really long, at least I found my hair clips!

Supply: Lavender Scented Yoga Mat Cleaner

This makes the room smell like lavender. Also, one of the houseplants had some white fungus growth and was dropping its leaves, but I spritzed it with the yoga mat cleaner and the fungus went away and the leaves grew back.
